The year 2020 is anything but average. 20/20 vision actually does mean average vision.
“A person with 20/20 vision can see what an average individual can see on an eye chart when they are standing 20 feet away,” says Dr. McKinney. If you had 20/10 vision then at 20 feet away from a sign you could see what the average person can only see if they are closer (10 feet) to the sign.
According to a National Institute of Health study only about 35% of all adults have 20/20 vision without glasses or contacts. 75% of people are able to have their vision corrected to 20/20 vision.
While the year 2020 may be what it is, that doesn’t mean your vision has to be similar.
