Spring is in the air, literally. Sneezing, congestion, watery red eyes, scratchy throat, runny nose, and lethargy are the familiar symptoms of Spring. Seasonal allergies though are unfortunately not limited to just Spring. They are common in Summer and Fall also. Especially ‘round here.
These cold-like symptoms are a natural reaction to your body being attacked. Pollen and other allergens react with the plasma cells in the nose which causes the production on antibodies. Antibodies attach to white blood cells that contain histamine. Histamine then produces allergy symptoms.
In an interview in 2016 Dr. Paivi Salo, an allergy expert at NIH, stated, “Most people with allergies are sensitive to more than one allergen. Grass, weed, and tree pollens are the most common causes of outdoor allergies.”
Common allergy symptoms for your eyes can be red, watery, and itchy eyes. If these symptoms persist for more than a few days, contact your eye doctor to see if there is anything that can be done to alleviate some of these symptoms or if something more might be going on.
